This is a message from the Dawson Emergency Control Group including City of Dawson, Tr’ondëk Hwëch’in and Government of Yukon response agencies (including Wildland Fire Management and the Emergency Coordination Centre). Evacuation Alerts Rescinded – Hazard Remains The Evacuation Alerts issued last week for West Dawson, Sunnydale, and Henderson Corner area remain rescinded. We are thankful for the shift in conditions but remain mindful that wildfire risk persists. Residents are strongly encouraged to have 72-hour kits, and to remain prepared and attentive in the face of wildfires in our region.

Fire Activity In total, there are 28 active wildfires in the Dawson region. Ten of which are under control or being held. Due to recent weather, fires are showing minimal activity but are still producing heat. While the City of Dawson is currently not threatened, the Quebec Creek fire, Mount Leotta Fire an the Rabbit Creek fire are still active and out of control. Daily bulletins on fires are provided by Wildland Fire Management here: www.yukon.ca/wildfires

Wildland Fire Management (WFM) crews remain active in the territory. Structural protections are expected to stay in place until further notice, with crews responding within our region as needed.

Local Readiness

• Evacuation planning continues. Work over the past week has helped us build a strong foundation for future response. A specialist is currently in Dawson supporting our emergency planning team.

• Information boards remain in place and will be updated as needed.

• Pre-registration forms are still encouraged for residents of West Dawson, Sunnydale, and Henderson Corner. These forms help speed up any future evacuation efforts. Please pick-up and drop off at City Hall (1336) or at information boards in your neighbourhood.

• Be Prepared: All households should maintain a 72-hour emergency kit and plan for what you would do in the event of a wildfire or other emergency.
