Re: State of Emergency November 9, 2021

On November 8, Yukon Government declared a State of emergency and announced new measures due to the surge of COVID-19 cases in the Yukon. Throughout this pandemic, the City of Dawson Parks and Recreation department has supported and cooperated with the mandates released by Yukon Government. We continue to trust in the expertise and knowledge of our health authorities in making the appropriate regulations on behalf of all residents of our community.

At this time, we do not have all the answers to the questions we are receiving, but we are doing our best to develop methods that will work for users of our facilities and staff alike. We appreciate everyone’s patience and cooperation as we implement measures at our various facilities and programs. As of this moment, we are announcing the following measures:

• Fitness Centre (Effective November 12, 2021)

o Masks required upon entry and while moving between equipment.

o Facility use limited to 8 patrons at a time.

o All fobs will shut off as of 9am on November 12. Proof of Vaccination will need to be presented at Recreation Office (in person, Monday to Friday, 9 to 5, closed weekends and statutory holidays) for fob to be re-activated.

• Art and Margaret Fry Recreation Centre (Effective November 13, 2021)

o Masks required, including in changerooms. Masks not required while participating in on ice activities.

o All visitors over the age of 12, including parents of those under 12, will be required to check-in and provide ID and proof of vaccination in-person at skate room.

• Rec Office (Effective November 13, 2021)

o Mask required to enter.

o All visitors over 12, will be required to check-in and provide ID and proof of vaccination upon entry.

• Programs (Effective November 13, 2021)

o Registration will be required for all programs.

o All participants aged 12 and over will be required to provide Proof of Vaccination at Recreation Office (in person, Monday to Friday, 9 to 5, closed weekends and statutory holidays) prior to the start of the program and will be expected to carry Proof of Vaccination and ID to each program occurrence.

o Masks mandate in effect where possible.

o Specific measures for specific buildings apply (ie. School rules trump City rules).

o High Intensity Programs to be suspended (specific list to be released once more details are released).

This is a fluid situation to which we are adapting by the minute. COVID-19 has presented us with a variety of challenging logistical situations to which our residents, staff members and volunteers have responded positively and responsibly. We’ll do our best to continue doing so, and we hope you are all willing to help us along the way.

Paul Robitaille,

Throughout the pandemic, the City of Dawson Parks and Recreation department has provided services and operated our facilities according to the recommendations and guidance of the Chief Medical Officer of Health for Yukon Government.

As restrictions ease, we are continuing to trust in these measures and guidance. As such, as of August 4th, masks continue to be welcomed in our facilities and during programs, but they are no longer mandatory. Please continue to follow the guidance of our medical professionals and do your part to make all users feel comfortable and safe in our spaces.
