The City of Dawson and Tr’ondëk Hwëch’in invite community members to submit name suggestions for the new Recreation Centre's main building.
This is an opportunity to help create a name that reflects our community and will welcome residents and visitors for generations to come.
What We're Looking For
The selected name will be presented in both English and Hän. We encourage submissions that:
- Reflect our community, culture, landscape, history, or the purpose of the facility
- Are respectful and culturally appropriate
- Are easy to recognize, pronounce, and use
- Are suitable for use in both English and Hän
- Are meaningful and appropriate for future generations
- Are not named after an individual person
- Are not offensive, discriminatory, or political
Prize
One lucky participant whose submission contributes to the selected name will win:
A 1-Year Recreation Centre Membership
OR
$360 in Recreation Program Credit
If multiple participants submit the same selected name, the prize winner will be determined by random draw.
Who Can Participate?
Everyone is welcome to participate. You do not have to be a City of Dawson resident to submit a name suggestion.
There is no limit to the number of submissions an individual may make.

Selection Process
- Submissions will be reviewed to ensure they meet the naming criteria.
- Eligible submissions will be reviewed by the Recreation Board.
- The Recreation Board will develop a shortlist and recommendation.
- Joint City of Dawson and Tr’ondëk Hwëch’in Council will make the final naming decision.

Contest Terms
By participating, you acknowledge that submitted names may be reviewed, translated, modified, adapted, or combined with other submissions as part of the naming process. Submission of a name does not guarantee that it will be shortlisted or selected. The final naming decision rests with the Joint City of Dawson and Tr’ondëk Hwëch’in Council.

About the Project
The new Recreation Centre is a collaborative project between the Government of Yukon, the City of Dawson, and Tr’ondëk Hwëch’in. Construction is being carried out by Wildstone Construction Group.
