The City of Dawson is hoping to undertake the building of a new recreation facility in the next few years. Our current recreation facility, the Art and Margaret Fry Rec Centre, has severe structural issues, which are threatening its future. The City of Dawson, along with Yukon Government are currently in the planning stages for a new facility. As of now, the location, design and features of this facility are still up for discussion and public engagement. The goal of this planning is to create a shovel-ready project as soon as possible, that meets needs of the community, and allows us to begin construction within the next few years.
We will be hosting public engagement for this project through various channels - March 7 to March 19

We are looking at two possible locations for the future recreation facility:
1. Block Q, Ladue Estates - current location of the Gold Rush Campground RV Park
2.Base of the Dome Road - across from Crocus Bluff Park and C4 Subdivision
Geo-technical studies have been done for both locations:
Gold Rush Campground Geo-Technical Survey information can be found here.
Dome Road Geo-Technical Study information can be found here.
Environmental studies have also been done, but are pending review.
A feasibility study for both locations was completed in the winter of 2020-21. The goal of this study was to create examples of what was possible at both locations, with attention given to the overall cost of building and operating various facilities in these locations.
Draft feasibility study can be found here.
