NATIONAL DAY OF RECONCILIATION AND NATIONAL ABORIGINAL DAY in the City of Dawson.
Mayor and Council have joined with Chief and Council to proclaim
JUNE 11TH to be National Day of Reconciliation, and
JUNE 21ST to be National Aboriginal Day in the City of Dawson.
COUNCIL RESOLUTION - PASSED MAY 10TH, 2016
Moved by Mayor Potoroka, Seconded by Councillor MacArthur that Council for the City of Dawson repudiates concepts used to justify European sovereignty over Indigenous peoples and lands, such as the Doctrine of Discovery and terra nullius, and supports the reform of those laws, government policies, and litigation strategies that continue to rely on such concepts.
